Okay, I’ve done it — I’ve affirmed my inner feminine by setting up a Pinterest account. My wife has been spending almost as much time on Pinterest lately as I spend on my blog, so I had to see what the fuss was about. As best I can tell, it’s basically a visually rich variant on Twitter. But immediately I could see the benefits: it’s a great way to set up your own little online visual media library. So this morning I took the plunge, and here’s one of my first “pins” — an image of one of my favorite places in the world: St. Brigid’s Holy Well in Co. Kildare, Ireland. More to come, I’m sure. I took 20 teens to Ireland in 2005. St Brigid’s Well was one of their favorite places. We made crosses from long grasses growing at the site. They left crosses and prayers on the wall! Thanks for the special memory.

Last time I was there was also in 2005, for La Feile Bride (the Festival of Brigit), a wonderful night-time ceremony that blends ancient Celtic and Christian elements into a powerful prayer for peace and unity. It takes place each year on the eve of St. Brigit’s day, in other words, the evening of January 31. Maybe we can get the Lay Cistercians to go one of these years!

I’ll be using mine as a digital extension of the Naturalist Journal that I just started as part of my volunteer work with the Seattle Parks services and my spiritual work in bioregional animism. In addition to my nature photography and scanned pages from my field-notes, I’ll be able to pull images and information on flora, fauna, weather, etc. from various online sources about the Pacific Northwest… at least, that’s the plan!
